In a nutshell

The Old School training saber M1 is the heavier version of our Old School saber system.

It wasn't developed because historical training sabers were particularly heavy – in fact, they were usually comparatively light. Our M2, in particular, follows this historical approach.

The M1 was created as a conscious response to the demand from many fencers for a training weapon with a higher weight and more mass in motion.

⚔️ The idea behind the M1

Our understanding of good historical training weapons is not based on the highest possible weight, but on:

• meaningful fencing dynamics
• safe handling
• historical plausibility

Nevertheless, many fencers deliberately prefer heavier sabers – whether out of personal preference or due to tournament rules.

The M1 therefore offers:

👉 more mass than the M2
👉 wider and heavier blade
👉 nevertheless controllable dynamics
👉 High flexibility in the stitch (approx. 5–7 kg)

The goal was not to build the heaviest possible saber, but to create a useful training weapon within this framework.

⚙️ Construction & Dynamics

The M1 uses a specially developed saber blade:

• Triangular cross-section
• tapered towards the tip
• Higher mass than the M2
• Flex of approximately 5–7 kg

The blade bends predominantly in the last third and remains stable in the lower area.

The result:

• controllable stitch dynamics
• solid blade work
• noticeably more mass in the movement
• Robust training weapon for intensive use

Despite its greater weight, the M1 was consistently developed as a training weapon.

The main focus was on:

• controllable fencing
• secure stitch dynamics
• good usability in sparring

👉 More weight does not automatically mean more strength. A clean, technical application remains crucial.

The saber is fully configurable.

Blade shape

• heavy bell → more mass and stability

Handle

• optional with additional weight

👉 Handles and knobs are compatible between M1 and M2 and can be used across models.

👉 Due to the wider M1 blade, current M1 bells have a larger blade opening. Therefore, bells and blades from M1 and M2 are not interchangeable without modifications.

👉 Within each model, all components remain interchangeable and combinable.
