IN MOTU Academy Line – Fencing Sword
The return of a classic
After several years, the IN MOTU fencing sword is back. Even the first generation was considered exceptionally light, agile, and thrust-friendly – qualities that are valued by many HEMA fencers today and can now be found in numerous modern fencing swords.
With the new generation of the Academy Line, the fencing sword returns in a redesigned form. The blades are crafted in renowned European workshops that also supply Olympic fencing. The hilt components are made in Germany. The result is a high-quality fencing sword for Historical European Artistic Fencing (HEMA) that combines safety, performance, durability, and modularity.
Designed for modern HEMA
The IN MOTU Academy Line fencing sword was specifically designed for training, sparring, teaching and competition with the longsword.
The dimensions are based on historical longswords of the 14th and 15th centuries. At the same time, the design has been adapted to the requirements of modern protective equipment. The extended grip offers ample space for safe and comfortable handling, even when wearing fencing gloves.
Particular attention was paid to:
- low total weight (1200-1250g)
- high agility
- excellent top flexibility
- safe sting behavior
- reduced impact effect during hacking
- easier maintenance and repair
This makes the fencing sword suitable for both beginners and experienced fencers looking for a fast and dynamic fencing weapon.
Historical inspiration
The shield (Ricasso) is based on historical fencing swords made by the Munich smiths Diefstetter from the 16th century. The original models are now part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The Academy Line fencing sword combines modern safety and functionality with a historical design language.
Adaptable to your fencing style
The weight and therefore the handling of the sword can be individually adjusted by using different interchangeable pommels.
Depending on the chosen configuration, the fencing sword can be adjusted to be lighter and faster, or to have a more substantial binding action. This allows each fencer to tailor the weapon's dynamics to their own preferences.
Maintenance friendly construction
The fencing sword is screwed to the pommel and can be completely disassembled. This allows the blades and handle parts to be replaced if necessary.
This facilitates repairs, extends the weapon's lifespan, and allows for future modifications or upgrades.
