Description:

Joachim Meyer 1600

Transcription of the fencing book "A thorough description of the free, knightly and noble art of fencing"

Edited and transcribed by Wolfgang Landwehr

Volume 3 of the Library of Historical Martial Arts

Joachim Meyer's fencing book was published in two editions in 1570 and 1600, which, however, differed only marginally.

The basis of this transcription is the version printed by Manger in Augsburg in 1600.

In his work, Joachim Meyer describes in detail and in an easily understandable way the fight with sword, dusack, rapier, dagger and polearms in separate chapters, which are illustrated with 74 mostly full-page plates, each of which shows different techniques.

This transcription adheres to the original version letter by letter and also retains the layout, so that despite the use of a modern, and therefore easier to read, font, the highest possible authenticity of the original is maintained.

By completely reproducing the entire original work in its historical wording with all illustrations, this transcription is an indispensable basic work for historians, martial artists and medieval reenactors.

The transcription is complemented by an introduction about Meyer and the history of this fencing book. A glossary of terms from Old Modern High German and a keyword index for quickly finding topics complete the publication.
